It Ain’t Brain Surgery

Becoming a real estate salesperson is NOT like becoming a brain surgeon. Being a brain surgeon requires skill and knowledge. Several years of schooling and experience. Money and/or the credit worthiness to go deeply into debt. I'm thinking it must require an intense passion to get you thru the long years of training.

On the other hand, becoming a real estate salesperson, at least in Florida, requires 10 days and two tests. A total investment of about $1500, not including those 10 days away from your waitressing job. Unless you waitress at night.

Leavin’ On A Jet Plane

Peter Paul and Mary didn’t have to get up at 4:30am to catch a 7am plane. At least not pre-911. I’m flying back to Key West for 10 days to work with Sam and Janet, customers from last summer. They live in New Jersy and are shopping for a property. We work well together and enjoy each other’s company… so heck! It’s been less than 6 months… surely I haven’t forgotten everything I learned the past 11 years!

God knows the market has changed. Prices in new town are down . . . → Read More About Leavin’ On A Jet Plane

“From Nothing”

In the states, you hear de nada in place of “you’re welcome” everywhere. I don’t know if the Cubans in Key West use de nada. Since I’ve never understood Spanish before, I haven’t listened closely enough to pick it out. When we’ve said de nada, we’ve meant "you’re welcome", although it  literally means "of nothing" or "from nothing".

In Costa Rica, the ticas say con mucho gusto (with much pleasure) and they say it like they mean it. It’a lovely sentiment. Try tossing off de . . . → Read More About “From Nothing”

Learn Spanish Online!

While reading this Buenos Aires blog, I found a link to www.yabla.com. What a great site! We are signed up and ready to go… Fun site, very comprehensive, and you can learn Spanish or French (we signed up for both – in for a penny, in for a pound)!

The "classes" involve watching real videos with excellent dubbing below which you can turn on or off, depending on how challenging you want the class that day. The most impressive part to me is that you . . . → Read More About Learn Spanish Online!

Schooling in Costa Rica

Finding good schooling for our two teenagers has been a trip. We’ve only lived in Costa Rica for 6 months so are not experts on this topic by any means. But we get asked a lot about schooling so here’s our experience for what it’s worth.

First, you’ll find a great article and list of private schools here.

Mo and Ryan have been homeschooled from the start. They are now 13 and 14, somewhere around 7th and 9th grades (7th grade English, 9th math…). Unlike in the states where I sold real estate and Hal did the . . . → Read More About Schooling in Costa Rica

Old People Prices, Surfer Dude Service

Hola! Criticia Voluptuous Right-Right here. My mom gave me that name. Isn’t she funny? She says I can be a tad critical. Part of my charm. So let’s get started, shall we?

Last Wednesday morning I got my family and guests up early and we drove to Nosara for 3 days in the sun and surf. It’s a 5 1/2 hour drive, the first 4 1/2 hours on highway like in the picture at left: animals, hairpin curves, mongo potholes that drop thru to Kuala Lumpur, all whilst riding . . . → Read More About Old People Prices, Surfer Dude Service
