We utter these words constantly at the farmer’s market. Then follow up with, "What do you do with it?" or "How do you prepare it?" There are so many odd, funny looking, sometimes inedible-looking, yet delicious fruits and vegetables in Costa Rica. This red item is a mamon chino – delicious! A kilo is 300 colones, about 60 cents. If something is grown here, it’s practically free!

Jon over at Dos Colones has some great photos from his farmer’s market with names and often directions. So many veggies, so little time.
