Huge Bummer

Costa Rica seems intent on passing the new immigration bill. A revised version just passed the first hurdle unanimously. The only good thing in the revision was that one can still apply for permanent residency after three years instead of five. As long as you have beaucoup bucks to be able to stay here the first three years. Which we don’t. Au contraire. We are livin’ on faith now…

A major sticking point is whether or not those who have already applied for residency and have their cedula [SAY-do-lah, id], either as rentista, . . . → Read More About Huge Bummer

Eye On The Flu Shot

An update on the flu shot from Dr. Mercola here. I’ve come to really respect this guy. He sells vitamins and health equipment, but his views are supported by research and I find the same information on many other respected websites and forums. I read a lot of websites and forums on health and vaccines and natural healing everyday – Dr. Mercola is top-notch and worth taking the time to subscribe (free – you can sign-up for a daily email on his site).

And a U.S. house with land for $7,000 total and 52 bids! Ok, so maybe it sits next to a heroin den, but . . . → Read More About For A Good Time

You Won’t Believe This.

Yesterday, Mo developed red bumps all over his chest and face. By last night it had spread to his back, down his arms a little… It had started to look better yesterday afternoon, but as soon as doctor’s hours ended, the places on his face got bumpy. It itched a little but no fever, no nothing. Just red bumps and his lips look bee-stung. Not like Cher, like someone who knocked into a beehive.

I left a message on the doctor’s cell phone (turns out I should have called his house.) At 10:30 last night, we went to the . . . → Read More About You Won’t Believe This.

About Last Night

or: Nurturing Cultural Intercourse and the Integrity of English in Central America

Written by guest author, el Profesor de Inglés, Hal:The school is a single room concrete block building up in the hills behind Santa Ana in Costa Rica. It’s poorly lit and cheaply furnished in the Costa Rican style. I spend four hours a week there teaching a few of the locals how to speak English. My students range in age from 14 to 64. A small core of about half a dozen are my most dedicated, another half a dozen drift in and . . . → Read More About About Last Night
