Congrats. How do you feel the Costa Rican real estate market is vs. 2-3 years ago? Way down? And is it bottomed out yet? I'm actually looking into maybe buying a mobile home in this area (I still can't afford even the cheapest condo around here, but a trailer [err, excuse me, "mobile home"], maybe).

Also, I'm curious how the Club Carbonell thing is going. I actually just joined a local "CrossFit" gym which has a crazy-intense program, and I can't believe that I'm actually enjoying it (despite being sore somewhere ALL the time now). It is a 180 degree change from my congenitally sedentary lifestyle.

Are you the Tilapia farmer I loaned to through Kiva? :)

Hey Chuck, the Costa Rica real estate market is an odd duck and I don't have it figured out yet. If I had to lay money, I'd say it has not bottomed out yet, particularly on the coast. Definitely softer and lower prices than 3 years ago.

Like the states, though, you buy when you can afford and want to own your home. As long as you are not buying for investment and can afford the house you want, buy it. Anyone who waits for the bottom in this market could be waiting for years. I will buy a property when I can afford one. I don't have the patience to wait for the bottom... I like owning my home.

We've lived in mobile homes... actually travel trailers! Love them. Simple to fix and fiddle with, crawl under and fix your plumbing. I'd only own one where I owned the land, though. Paying rent on a lot sucks big time. Um, leave in a hurricane. You know that...

You are making loans? I can repay you in eggs and fish. Someday.

love the girls,Eva, Ethel and Lucy!!! Should of had some girls in the NYC loft. They would of fit right in! xo

I can actually pictures chickens in that loft! Of course, they would have been laying eggs to Beat It...

All the tilapia I see at the local Publix markets in Miami come from Costa Rica and I see the little tilapia farms all over the place in the Central Valley. I am curious as to how the fish are harvested....with a net? Are they shipped whole on dry ice? What is the transit time to South Florida. Tilapia is my favorite fish. It doesn't have a strong fish flavor or odor.

Regards learning Spanish...why did you wait so long? That would have been the first thing on my "TO DO" list.

Here are two of the farms here: http://www.tilapiasdelsol.com/ and http://www.tilapia.com/Farm.html. I think they flash freeze them to ship. We love tilapia - delicous, mild in flavor. We are also learning about tons of other fish you can farm here.

Re. Spanish: Both boys are very comfortable because they were immersed in it in school. Hal is pretty comfortable and he studies every single day without fail. And he's still just comfortable! It's hard to learn another language. And, because there are so many things that are new and different and intimidating, I just couldn't assimilate it all.

Oh: and I never do anything till I have to.
