“How Are You Feeling?”

I've been getting that a lot lately, combined with seriously concerned looks, both in Kentucky and here in Costa Rica. I was wondering why until I happened to catch myself in the mirror last night. You know, just regular, without the posing. It was a little scary: the hair. No wonder people look at me like I might break! Here's what they see:

Scared yet? Bwah-ha-ha-ha-ha! That little bald spot in front is attractive, yes? I can't dye my hair because what's left will probably dissolve. It's . . . → Read More About “How Are You Feeling?”

Stress? What stress? Hey! I asked you a QUESTION!

Moving is really easy: you just throw everything you own into boxes, then lug them around the world on airlines for $100 a box. Piece of cake. Actually, I could use a piece of cake, now that I think of it. A big fat piece of three layer chocolate cake with gobs of icing and some of those pink roses. But I'm going to skip it because I am still in KY, land of the Gigantically Obese.

On the health and well-being scale, Kentucky would be dead last. At least, I'm hoping they would be. Surely there are not . . . → Read More About Stress? What stress? Hey! I asked you a QUESTION!

Fallout (or More On The Hangnail)

DAILY REFLECTIONS July 4 IDENTIFYING FEAR: "The chief activator of our defects has been self-centered fear…" When I feel uncomfortable, irritated, or depressed, I look for fear. This "evil and corroding thread" is the root of my distress: Fear of failure; fear of others' opinions; fear of harm, and many other fears. I have found a Higher Power who does not want me to live in fear and, as a result, the experience of my spiritual program is freedom and joy. I am no longer willing to live with the multitude of character defects that characterized . . . → Read More About Fallout (or More On The Hangnail)

Copycats

Both my mother and my dog were in the hospital this past weekend. That kinda thing makes it pretty stressful around here. To tell you the truth, I was more worried about my dog.

Why was Nana (my mother) in the hospital? Because she TOOK TOO MANY TYLENOL. This tells me two things:

#1 The apple doesn't fall far from the tree, and

#2 Apparently my mother doesn't read my blog.

She took all that acetaminophen because her hip was hurting her and her doctor said, "Take . . . → Read More About Copycats

About the Lipstick Fund

Last week, I found out that my little medical adventure cost us over half our net worth. Not including the '95 Rav4 with the 150,000 miles and a very slightly crinkled hood where I ran into someone. Hey, it was his fault: he slammed on his brakes to miss a dog. Ok, maybe I was following a tad close.

Anyway, that hurt us. Hal never worries about money and he's worried. Preoccupied, in fact. I'm trying not to think about it till I'm better. I don't think there will be . . . → Read More About About the Lipstick Fund

Thank You

I just read all the comments. There are not words to express my feelings right now. (Yes, I'm speechless.) It meant so much to my family to hear from you, cheering me away from the edge. It worked!!!

Everything is going great: I lifted a bottle of Clorox over my head today. When I got home, I couldn't wash my hair unless I bent over and got my head to hand level… I could barely raise my hand to touch my head! Combing my hair was an effort.

I'm walking up and down the stairs, rarely use the oxygen. . . . → Read More About Thank You

Saratica Continues to Improve

Sally is still in the ICU at San Juan de Dios hospital in San Jose. She is much improved. She is spending ever longer periods of time conscious and disconnected from a ventilator. The IV antibiotic treatment is making progress against her pneumonia. She has no liver damage from the overdose of Tylenol she took.

She is in good spirits, retains a sense of humor despite not being able to speak for the volume of plastic tubing in her mouth, and is eager to leave the ICU and the hospital.

In keeping with her desire to be the . . . → Read More About Saratica Continues to Improve

Repeat After Me:

You heard me. g-NOWF-glinz. It stands for God's Natural Organic Food Grown Locally In Season and is my new favorite blog. I'm already in love with Wardeh (Wardee), the mom, and I only just discovered her Saturday! She and her family started out five years ago homesteading, growing their own natural organic food. They follow the Weston A. Price guidelines. Us, too, as much as possible!

Like Wardeh, we have changed everything about how we eat. (Except that Hal still does all the cooking.) "Changing everything about how . . . → Read More About Repeat After Me:

Auriculotherapy

Unless you just looked that up, I am enjoying a nanosecond knowing about something very few people do. I can't tell you how this pleases me. [Sad, I know, but we have to get our yayas where we can these days, eh?]

Here's the scoop: Auriculotherapy is ear acupuncture. Like reflexology, it's based on the premise that all body parts and organs have reciprocal points in the hands, feet, ears and, to some extent, the scalp. Due to stress, injury . . . → Read More About Auriculotherapy
