It’s Official.

Last week I spent four of the longest (and, surprisingly, some of the most interesting) days of my career in the real estate course offered by the Cámara Costarricense de Corredores de Bienes Raíces (Costa Rica's Chamber of Real Estate Brokers). If I'm going to plunge into Costa Rica real estate (and I am), I need to know what I'm doing. Or at least get a head start on knowing.

The course is remarkably similar to the . . . → Read More About It’s Official.

DESPERATE Sellers

Seriously desperate. Not I'm-a-real-estate-broker-looking-for-a-sale desperate (like in regular real estate sales' pitches), but two honest-to-God I'm-a-seller-and-gotta-sell-this-house desperate. So seriously desperate, the sellers said I could say "seriously desperate." I'm posting the info on my personal blog and risking reader wrath in the off-chance one of you knows someone shopping for Costa Rica property. If you do, please alert them. Seriously.

Costa Rica Real Estate Steal

I promise not to bore you with all the listings on CostaRicaScout.com, but here is a 10% price reduction on an already well-priced brand new Costa Rica mountain property: 3 bed/2 bath, 1650sf, 3/4 acre lot, spectacular views, hour from the beach, hour to my house… who could ask for more? All for $135,000. Plus, the seller is motivated. (Not "sales pitch" motivated, actually motivated.)

Two Costa Rica Tidbits:

Speaking of Costa Rica real estate and abandoned projects, Scott Oliver has an excellent list of questions to ask your salesperson here (you'll need to sign in but tons of good information). If you are moving to Costa Rica and looking for real estate, this is a good list to bring with you.

Beauty & The Beast

We're livin' the life of Riley down here in lazy Costa Rica. Even without a plugged nickel to our names. How we manage this, I'll never know. But I'm not going to ask too many questions and I'm not going to look at the balance sheet. Faggeddaboudit. Specially now that we are farmers, growing our own food. Who needs money? I hope one can live on peppers, tomatoes and gladiolas…

For A Good Time

Go here and surf around these real estate deals… oh my goodness, some of these homes are CHEAP. There’s a house in Costa Rica up in the hills behind Alajuela with two acres of land for $27,000. And a U.S. house with land for $7,000 total and 52 bids! Ok, so maybe it sits next to a heroin den, but . . . → Read More About For A Good Time

I Told You So

In my family, the greatest compliment you can give another person is this: "You are absolutely 100% right." I almost never hear that. So I have to say, "I told you so." How annoying. But I did:

Just To Be Fair: Stateside Squatters

Watch the video here. And the story goes…

Condo bust draws scams and squatters

MIAMI – June 19, 2008 – Someone had kicked the door in on the foreclosure on the 33rd floor at The Club at Brickell Bay. Last week, Lori Rice, the building’s property manager, pushed it open. Inside, she found the tell-tale signs of a squatter: a mattress on the floor, a few toiletries in the bathroom.

“Clearly, a man was staying in there,” Rice said, adding that she called the police.

When police arrived on Monday, they found the . . . → Read More About Just To Be Fair: Stateside Squatters
