The Gringo Teen Thang

Maybe some of the following applies to tico teens, too, I don't know. I only know mine. Very well. As they do me, since we're together all day every single day and always have been.

In Fred's comment yesterday, he brought up points I had originally included in that post, then erased to keep it manageable. But they are all considerations on the moving pro/con whiteboard, particularly the Gringo Teen Thang. Which is decidedly pro.

Looking at schools, British School sounds good, but it’s on different calendar. I think we are going with the Lincoln School. The school year here start February 1 and go to December 15. Their big vacation time is around Christmas – very Catholic country! They have about 3 weeks off in July, then back to "finish" their school year.

Moving To Costa Rica?

If so, you will be interested in this post. I saw Howard's post on the Costa Rica Living Group board this morning and he asked for "All references, opinion, advice and networking welcome." Hey, if there's one thing I have it's opinions and advice. I try not to give it unsolicited. I sometimes fail in that vain attempt. But if you ASK for it, I can oblige!!! MY ANSWER:Hola G,

We’ve tried two schools so far. If you click on Schools under the Categories column (on the left side), you’ll get the posts about our school experience. For now, we continue home schooling, as we have from the beginning. We tried the schools here, gave it a good shot, but it just didn’t work for us.

Teen Angst

As parents of two teens, we are keenly interested in schooling and the future of the current teen population. Mostly in Costa Rica and the U.S., but around the world, as well. These teens will be our leaders, shaping our world’s future, good or bad. In charge of our golden years. Scary…

Our experience of the school system in Costa Rica, as in the states, is dismal. I would no more leave the teaching of life lessons to the school system here than I would in the U.S. Mo’s ipod was stolen at St. Cecelia and the administration shook . . . → Read More About Teen Angst

Schooling in Costa Rica

Finding good schooling for our two teenagers has been a trip. We’ve only lived in Costa Rica for 6 months so are not experts on this topic by any means. But we get asked a lot about schooling so here’s our experience for what it’s worth.

First, you’ll find a great article and list of private schools here.

Mo and Ryan have been homeschooled from the start. They are now 13 and 14, somewhere around 7th and 9th grades (7th grade English, 9th math…). Unlike in the states where I sold real estate and Hal did the . . . → Read More About Schooling in Costa Rica
